The Curiousity Iron River @ Chan Sow Lin, KL

A new hidden bar have surfaced up in KL. With your least expected area as The Curiousity Iron River 好奇鐵河  is operating at Chan Sow Lin, KL. Indeed a hidden gem for the area. If you are a person who loves to be in a second-hand kind of furniture shop, run-down ambience as I called it a rustic heritage building, then this place is a place that you would want to be.

We came here because of Petai Pizza and little did we discover further its a hidden bar. This place has great classic furniture pieces is also because the owner operates a second hand antique furniture shop.

Discovering this place would be a pain in the ass as waze will bring you to a location here you cant park your car. Best is to park your car at Jalan Satu and walk in this bright one-way street alley.

Looking at some blog posting, they have definitely light up the whole place to a new level. More vibrant and captivating. A neon blue sign board and a deck up Avatar kind lighting garden.

This is one of my favourite walkway. I felt that would be a nice instagramable spot.

little did we know that it is actually a nice bar place. We were here quite early, as bout 7.30pm for dinner. Love the ambience of this place as it is like a modern touch up of a Chinese 60’s herbs medicine shop.

Since we are here, trying out one of my favourite Negroni Cocktail @ RM 33. For this, I think it is more on the sweeter side. Not really my kind of taste or compare to the usuals that I usually have.

Indeed a perfect place to hang out as after 9pm, the disco ball is turn on. Totally switched the ambience. They also turn on classic Shangainese songs and also the 60’s and 70’s English songs. Indeed perfect music to be in. Do not mind to come back for round of gathering with friends here.

the curiousity iron river (21)

As they are a newly operated bar, food-wise they still have room for improvement. they need time to adjust and will go back again.

Brew and Bread @ Wisma MCA, KL

First came Brew & Bread when I was in F&B industry. Gotten free sample from my boss for their drip coffee. For a local roasters they are pretty impressive. Over the years the years, they have then build cafe to showcase their coffee and now with warm food. Their original outlet was sin Kota Kemuning then now another outlet in Wisma MCA at Jalan Ampang which is famous for their brunch in KL.

Brew and Bread (1)

After the trail, their drip coffee had become one of my favourite before all others came out, of course with the most recent well known that most of my friend is buying is “perks”.

Brew and Bread (2)

Brew and Bread (3)

Brew and Bread (4)

they have a display corner that sells their coffee drips, beans and some other merchandize.

Brew and Bread (5)

of course, I am in for their single-origin filter coffee @ RM 14 which what they are famous for. Their latte @ RM 8 and Mocha @ RM 11 are equally good.

Brew and Bread (6)

Read up some reviews, their food are pretty good too. Decided to try out their Truffle Bacon Carbonara with Bacon Brisket @ RM 26. It is creamy and they use like sort of fettuccini thicker version, that is cook to al-dante and fragrant is just right.

Brew and Bread (8)

Brew and Bread (8.1)

this is their signature that a lot of people shout out: Hot Bunny Crab @ RM 25. For price wise, it is a pretty good catch with a generous amount of crab meat, a bit hint of creamy spicy and herbs, yet cheese taste is prominent. No wonder it is a must-order. – recommended too.

Brew and Bread (9)

Brew and Bread (10)

A twist of indon – is their healthier version of Gado-Gado @ RM 14. The sauce they did it right, a bit peanut sauce just that healthier side.

Brew and Bread (11)

Egg Benedict @ RM 26 with special in house marinated chicken. More like chicken kunyit. a nice twist which is not the usually classic. Time to change some taste?

Brew and Bread (12)

Brew and Bread (14)

French Toast @ RM 23. Broich type bread and a scoop of ice cream. Kinda normal nothing to shout about.

Brew and Bread (15)

Sandwich of Truffle mushroom @ RM 13 and I guess this is the least favourite among the food we have tried. If can, avoid.

Brew and Bread (16)

As we are here for birthday gathering with ex-colleague, after meals, cakes of course is a must.

Brew and Bread (17)

Brew and Bread (18)

cakes all so so only.

Brew and Bread (19)

If you are here, I think their pasta series definitely stood out, follow by Brunch and maybe local delights. For me on my taste profile, rating them as one of the best coffee in KL for a local roaster.

I am sure many of you know this famous Therefore Cafe for their instagramable place in Menara Symphony, PJ. A cafe that have nice pink frontage that captures many of our attention. Yet their food is a local fusion kind of menu that bring it a notch up to your not so usual cafe dining.

High Tea @ The Ruma Hotel and Residence

High Tea is indeed not my thing as I find the price for it is quite steep for me. However when I saw @ivyaiwei posted about her experience for High-tea in The Ruma Hotel and Residence, then I asked her about her opinion. She just told me her no.1 spot. Best of all, CIMB card/Debit cardholders get 40% off!! Immediately I just went and book for it.

Just got an email that their promo had extended to November too. Menu right at the bottom.

Ruma High Tea (1)

Ruma Hotel and Residence would be like one of my recommendation for travellers with budget. Indeed it is a boutique hotel with nicely build up modern interior. I have not stayed here before but did came over for functions. It is indeed a nice place for picture taking.

Ruma High Tea (2)

Their high tea area is in Goutal room. During this time, reservation is highly recommended and have to send them email (SEVEN@theruma.com) for reservation confirmation. Then you have to make a deposit to secure the spot.

there are 2 sessions. 2.3pm or 3.30 pm. Upon arrival, you will be greeted with their handwashing ceremony.

Ruma High Tea (9)

From the menu, there area some selection of tea for you to choose from. Fret not, as hot water for the tea is refillable.

We had :

  1. Chocolate Mint Tea
  2. French Orange

Both tea were surprisingly good. Got their own taste charactor and it is light yet do not cover the actual tea taste. Pairs well with our tea set too.

Ruma High Tea (10)

as it was Pink-October, in support for Breast Cancer awareness campaign, they have created the tea set to be feature in pink theme.

the flow was to start from top tier then flow to bottom . However, it depend your own liking how you would want to kick start on it.

Not the usual pastries I have especially those tarts with beetroot – that gives you hint of earthy and hint of sweetness at the end is pretty good. Yet the cracker and topped with salmon cubes is savory and perfect!

Ruma High Tea (15)

Ruma High Tea (16)

Can see that they actually put in effort for their mini cakes as there are layers of flavours in it. After enjoying the whole series of items, only then I understand why IVY mention is her no.1.

Marrybrown Mala-Tup series

$

I am certainly a big fan of Mala but never knew that it will be incorporated into fast food. Marrybrown have take a notch up by introducing their new special menu. Mala-Tup Ayam Goreng. I have tried it and it is indeed impressive for people whom have not tried Mala before.

Marrybrown Malatup (3)

This limited time menu comes in 4 options :

  1. Ayam Goreng Mala 2pcs Combo =  Harga dari RM 15.90
  2. Ayam Goreng Mala 3pcs Combo = Harga dari RM 18.80
  3. Bubur Ayam Mala-tup Combo = Harga dari RM 14.60
  4. Mala-tup Box Meal =  Harga dari RM 22.60

Marrybrown Malatup (1)

My personal preference will be 2 pieces of Malatup Chicken and best if they can have fries added into the Malatup chicken set. Then it would be perfect!

Those of you never try before, I would advise to hit on 2 pieces of chicken. The taste of the Mala is very mild, a bit of mild spicy and mild numb after taste (it wont happen during the first 2 bites but after you finish the first piece of chicken). Some of you might feel it immediately especially for first timer.

Marrybrown Malatup (2)

chicken no doubt is fried to perfection. Crispy inside out and chicken meat is juicy.

Marrybrown Malatup (6)

This is the Mala-tup Box Meal =  Harga dari RM 22.60 You get fries, onion rings, a chicken burger, 1 piece of mala-tup chicken and coleslaw.

Marrybrown Malatup (4)

Marrybrown Malatup (5)

Marrybrown Malatup (7)

This box is good enough to ko me for my brunch till dinner. quite filling but I am in love with the Mele-tup frieds. If they do sell it separately. Go for it!

Marrybrown Malatup (8)

Marrybrown Malatup (9)

Another interesting combination is their Bubur Ayam Mala-tup. turns out to be better than expected. A nice mix hit of spicy, hot porridge  alot of crispy bites and of course the chicken add nice bites to it!

Recommended!

Marrybrown Malatup (11)

Best advise to dine there to get the best experience of the chicken or consume within 15 minutes after take away. I did take away as 35 minutes when I reach home, the chicken is not as good as I am eating there.

During pandemic like this, and there are shops like this open, I am certainly impress with their courage. It was a random walk in as were hunting food in Sri Petaling and found this new shop that just open with their special price. Eat all you can charcoal bbq buffet at RM 29.90 and with drinks is RM 34.90 as their opening special and was a too good bargain in this Meet-ing Point at Sri Petaling. What can you expect. Support new businesses , support Lokal.

When we first stumble upon them, they were just 2 days old . Variety of meat that they offer is pretty decent and just a challenge on how you plan to fill up your stomach! Fresh meat that is prep on that day is ready to serve to you to the table. Pick your selection and get it ready to grill. Pork Belly, pork patty & curry beef was our favourite for the night.

With their special bbq pit, it is not as smokey as what we perceive. Could be also only 5 tables were on that day.

We were happy with the meat selection and marination werent the best but acceptable for the price we are paying.

meet-ing point (9)

We tried out some of their snacks too.

the owner is pretty open as they ask about our opinion about their food and we gave them feedback accordingly. Of course they are more than happy to listen to most of us and looking forward to further improve their marination base on neighborhood feedback.

meet-ing point

Be kind to business owners, as it is not easy to spend money and run a business in this pandemic. Instead of criticize, why not give them a straight feedback where the owner can improve and we can come back an enjoy again. For the price we are paying with eat all you can bbq in KL, I have no complain at all. Just gave them some feedback what should be add on and also what could be further improve. For 2 days in operation, I certainly hope that they can thrive long for their business.

Famous Willy Satay @ Kajang

There are certain area famous for certain food. When comes to Kajang, what do you all think off? For me its Satay. Satay Kajang seems to be one of the most famous street food that most of us can associated to. I am sure there are plenty of Satay Kajang out there and there is this particular stall when @broughtup2share told me I must visit! Willy Satay is one of their favourite satay stall.

willy satay

True enough, I must agree with them that, for the first time in my life, I have seen a sate business which is soo good that it needs 5 bbq pit. Fully operating yet there are not many customer in the food court. Apparently, they are famous for both tapau and dine in. The only other 5 pit I am seeing is this famous roti canai at Klang, which also running with 5 roti canai pit  – restaurant IV at Klang

What I have read that they have been in sate business 12 years ago at only a small road side stall. Over the years they have gain huge loyal customer to be where they are today.

willy satay kajang (5)

One of the famous Malaysian street food yet you have to go all the way to Kajang. These are the famous charcoal satay in Kajang. I am sure that every satay seller do have their own special marination or recipe in place.

willy satay kajang (4)

willy satay kajang (10)

But theirs, is another level. The marination and the kind of spice mixture that makes the aroma of the sata so fragrant and flavorful is a whole new level.

willy satay kajang (9)

After burning in the bbq pit. the meat is crystalize glaze yet look juicy inside out.

willy satay kajang (12)

The meat here is slightly chunkier compare to the ones I had previously. My usual order to test a stall out are:

  1. 5 x chicken
  2. 5 x beef
  3. 5 x chicken

Satay sauce or peanut sauce here is slightly diluted but do have its own taste. I believe that the satay itself is already punch with flavour that you need not mix with the peanut sauce.

willy satay kajang (11)

All the satay sticks are flavourful by its own. A good combination yet the only thing to highlight is that if you are taking the lamb, it is slightly tough on meat and gamey in taste. Those of you do not like lamb taste, this might turn you off. However, eaters like me, must have the gamey taste and we enjoy it.

willy satay kajang (8)

best satay in kl (2)

To mark this place is quite easy. You see the place punch out the most smoke, then you know you are nearby the stall. I am sure there are alot other great satay stalls in Kajang. Could Willy satay be one of the best Satay in Kajang or best satay in KL? Why not you guys share with me where is your favourite satay in Kajang?

I have tried a few satay in Kajang like :

  1. HJ Samuri (I have tried before the Kajang branch)

They do have delivery too. Just give them a call.

I am sure that there area few cafe in Puchong that is quite well known. I was there for a meeting then decided to check out what kind of cafe is around the area. Buranchi 日西式早午餐 at Bandar Puteri is one of a well known cafe in this neighborhood. They are offering Japanese  menu.

SPG by Bijan @ Changkat Bukit Bintang

Local inspired food with a twist. Where can you actually find that in modern dining. It was a recent discovery for me that Bijan at Changkat Bukit Bintang is actually a well known Malay restaurant visited by many. With the success of this, they have expended it next door with SPG by Bijan. A twist of Malay Tapas and Light Bites and specialize cocktails with local infusion.

bar in changkat bukit bintang

If you are looking for Malay Cuisine then head to their classic well known Bijan.

spg by bijan

Certainly inlove with their ambiance. It reminds me of like when I am in Bali. Casual sitting area with fan and neon purple as background and classic mosaic bar is indeed a perfect place for gathering.

spg by bijan (5)

Their cocktail series is indeed a bomb. Not your usual classic that you get in cocktail bar but it is indeed with local flavours infusion.  Believe that one of a unique cocktail in Changkat Bukit Bintang?

spg by bijan (6)

Hit The Road Jack @ RM 35 : vodka, frangelico, jackfruit, lemon

spg by bijan (7)

Kampung Girl @ RM 35 : gin, cucumber, ginger, blue pea flower

spg by bijan (8)

One of the local inspired cocktail is :Petai Cocktail. YUP! PETAI! Stinkini @ RM 35 pickled petai, gin, vermouth. I was like whatttt.???!!! Decided to give it a try and it blew me away. I am not a fan of petai but this cocktail is another level. A well balance of mix with hint of fermented petai that brings the aroma right at the end. PERFECT PERFECT! – Recommneded!

spg by bijan (12)

Blur Like Sotomg @ RM 42 : Spicy squid ink sambal tumis, anchovies, petai, mozzarella & coriander. One of my favourite for the night as a well nice mixture of flavor. not the usual Italian classic. A clever combination that brings all the flavour subtle.

spg by bijan (13)

Or Chien San @ RM 22 : It’s SPG’s or chien meets okonomiyaki. Fried oyster omelette, miso chili sauce, aioli, bonito flake & sesame. Topped with fresh oyster and omelet is done right. Bonito flakes adds a layer of smokey flavour into it.

spg by bijan (14)

One of the iconic entry for the menu is : Ah Ran Sini @ RM 25 Nasi Lemak flavours stuffed into rice balls & deep fried for deliciousness, served with anchovy mayo

spg by bijan (15)

Lamb Dumplings @ RM 16 : Lamb & Chinese parsley dumplings served with black vinegar, shrimp chili oil. First time having dumpling made with lamb. Lamb is soft and chili shirmp is a great pairing.

spg by bijan (16)

Duck Curry Bun @ RM 29 : Baked Keralan duck curry in a bun.  Extra bread for dipping +5. Second favourite of the night is this unique dish for me. Duck curry bun that had done to perfection. Fluffy bun dip into the bread is just perfect. With its hint of tumeric and duck meat cook to its softness.

No doubt this is one of the Best Char Siew that is being serve at Restaurant Spring Golden in Shah Alam. I saw @kyspeaks post and he mention is his favourite. So come by here and try. I reach here at 3pm and it was the last 2nd portion. Lucky me.

restaurant spring golden (1)

chicken rice in klang

Spring Golden famous for both their Chicken Rice in Shah Alam and also of course their Char Siew.  Chicken is not too bad and I must say this is the better chicken rice I have eaten so far (note that I rarely eat Chicken rice)

Just loooooook at that. Caramelize 360 turn over inside out and the fats I got was even but just melt in my mouth. I wanted to order another portion but no more as the customer behind me got the last bits of it. Love the burnt edges too as it just stick right in your teeth.

Authentic Nyonya Food at Winns Cafe, Penang

In Penang, its kinda hard to find good food? Depends how you look at that and your taste bud how sensitive. However I saw this youtuber (Elmo Lee) one of the oldest youtuber in Malaysia introduce this place I was like look at their food. Instantly I book a table at Authentic Nyonya Food at Winns Cafe, Penang for Chinese New Year dinner with my parents.

nyonya food in penang

Could this be the Best Nyonya Food in Penang? Oh well, you judge yourself after try out ya.

winns cafe menu

Their menu was pretty direct on that period of time. Winns Cafe menu is only 2 pager. Drinks and CNY ala Carte Menu.

DSC00702

Of course their rice is a must have. Fragrant and super good. My dad had 2 bowls of this.

nasi ulam

Then Nasi Ulam which is one of their Signature @ RM 15. Pack with flavours as it is as near authentic where I tried once long time ago. Layers of flavours from fresh herbs and wok hei rice, final top with their sambal is just perfect. My dad loves their sambal till wanted to ask to buy a bottle back!

Samble is mild spicy with hint of belacan, nice end of chili skin taste.

nyonya otak otak

Nyonya Otak Otak @ RM 13.50 cook to perfection. Well stim that it is still soft, with its fresh fish in the middle and the taste of the leave in it is not overpowering yet complement wells with the taste.

nyonya asam fish

In nyonya food, of course Asam Fish stingray must have for me! @ RM 56. Even this dish was on the high side price tag, but it is indeed satisfying. Well balance of sourish of curries with mild spicy end with hin of mint and bunya kantan is enough to banjir your plate to whack it clean.

acar

Their signature dish is also their classic Nyonya Acar @ RM 15. Nicely mix up with explosive sourish flavours. If you like sourish taste then go for this.

tau yew bak

One of their highlight which my dad totally agree is also their Signature Tau Yew Bak @ RM 35. Each piece is cook to perfection that is so caramelize, near stick to your teeth and a nice mouthful bite of this. The curries of Asam Stingray and dish would be a 2 perfect dish companion.

DSC00719

My dad keep praising as he eat this like the first time he ever had a good food. My dad already start to “bising” to come back here to bring my brother along.

nyonya dessert

We end ourselves with 2 dessert from recommendation. Glutinous rice and sago. Both are equally good and I have not come across such this. Quite interesting for a Nyonya dessert.

I would recommend 3 dishes for first timer:

  1. Asam Gulai
  2. Tau Yew Bak
  3. Nasi Ulam

I would certainly come back again.

Among many of my friends that have visited De Wan 1958 by Chef Wan at The Linc, KL indeed gave a good review and thumbs up for this place, till recently I get to try along for a private function. No doubt it is indeed serve pretty good Malay cuisine.

De.Wan 1958 by Chef Wan

I was here on weekdays so was told the crowd is not huge and it is pretty full house over the weekend. It is highly advisable to make a reservation before you come. This is to avoid any private functions that they have too.

Curious about their menu and price (click here)

de wan

Best of all, they have private dining room available that can sit up to 10 pax.

de wan ramadan menu

As the food was serve, the smell of those spicies and curies instantly makes me hungry.

the linc

Cucur Udang is classic street food and it is done right. Dipping with both satay and chili sauce is just perfect.

de wan by chef wan

Starting off with a classic dish – Pucuk Paku that is cook to perfection. Not too soft yet I can still bite slight crunchy texture of the veggie and sqeezing a bit of limau indeed enhance the flavour.

De.Wan 1958 by Chef Wan (5)

Udang Kari Hijau Telur Masin is indeed one of the highlight for the night. Prawn is fresh and big. Sauce is sticky with a bit of twist. Hint of chili skin after taste and the telur masin not overpowering yet goes very well with the whole flavour.

de wan ramandan

De.Wan 1958 by Chef Wan (7)

you will never go wrong with dishes that is bakar. The only thing is the ingredient must be fresh. Jumbo Sotong Bakar with Sambal Colik is indeed spot on. Ia mixture like of Indonesia x local malay taste infuse for the sauces.

De.Wan 1958 by Chef Wan (8)

We got serve with 2 types of rice and it is recommended.

  1. Nasi Lemuni Berseri Perlils
  2. Nasi Telur Terrenganu

de.wan

For curries they serve Daging Rendang Selangor. Spices are mix well and with the right amout, every one have their own version of curries recipe and I find it is qood.

Some will be stronger in spices, some is stronger in spicy but I like this. Both balance of spices and mild spicy, that can easily goes well with your rice.

the linc kl

Ayam Masak Merah Chef Wan  is abit more solid. Slightly strong in spicy end with mild sweetness. Chicken is soft and juicy.

de. wan

This is the first time I am having Umbut Kelapa Lemak Solok Lada. I find the taste is quite interesting. cook with a kind of noodle in it and I think those of you have never try before, I believe it is a dish worth to explore.

Previously I was recommended to try Omega Pork Noodle as one of a famous pork noodle shop in Kota Damansara, PJ. As one of my favourite is actually Ten Noodle which is just 2 rows away which is also selling Pork Noodle.

So it is kinda Ten Noodle vs Omega Pork Noodle and which is your favourite?omega pork noodle (3)Omega Pork Noodle  operate slightly different as the ambiance for here is certaily more comfortable with air condition. There is a purchase of 1 cup then you get to refill your favourite drinks or try different drinks at your liking at only RM 3.90

Price here is slightly more than Ten Noodle and with the difference, the portion here is also slightly bigger.

omega pork noodle side dish

There are some side dishes for you to choose .

omega pork noodle kota damansara

Here is my Omega Pork Noodle Soup and of course I add an egg. I add in all the spare parts and it is actually huge. Generous with ingredients and perhaps if you are really hungry, get one portion yourself. They have 2 sizes and mine is the regular. I cannot imagine the 1 in BIG! Starting from RM 9

Soup base is not as thick to my liking, however decent enough. I still like Ten Noodle over them. (individual preference) – however Ten noodle quality do drop compare to before MCO. To make it extra umph, I add on pork lard. Just too big and abit soggy. Can skip that next round.
best pork noodle in pjwhite curry meewhat caught my attention more is their Nanyang White curry Mee  starting  from  RM10.90. I order with vits noodle another additional RM 1 for this which I think can just sick to bee hoon and mee for my usual classic. I do like the soup base as it is slightly different from Penang white curry mee but the chili paste do make it a lot difference.

taste wise pretty spot on with its chili paste and just that on the saltier end side.

I would come here for their curry mee instead of pork noodle. 😀

In Penang there is alot of famous street food, but but but where is the best Char Koay Teow? Again would like to highlight again, everyone have their own taste preference. this Penang Street Food Char Koay Teow In Lorong Selamat Penang run by this auntie is one of a famous char koay teow that many travelers regard as.

best char koay teow in penangShe had been running this stall easily for more than 30  years. Using Charcoal to fried her signature koay teow is indeed pretty good. The only set back is the inconsistantcy.

Also I get to enjoy her slow cooking in charcoal fire filled with wok Hei. This was during last year August 2021 where state traveling is still restricted.street food in penang

till last month April when I was back in Penang and decided to give it a try. The taste indeed quite different to the time I had in CMCO. A pack of this Lorong Selamat Char Koay Teow serve with 2-3 big prawns is at RM 11-RM20. Depending you would want to add prawns.

Maple Palace Chinese Restaurant is one of a famous restaurant among the locals, used to be known as Maple Gold. This place had been my childhood place till now. With the owner now who are constantly upgrading their restaurant to create more comfortable dining for their regulars. certainly is one of the best restaurant in Penang.maple goldUsually they have functions on weekend and it is constantly full house. Best advise to make reservation.

Maple Place offer classic Cantonese cuisine with its owner cum chef is the main person behind the menu. Not only that, with strong demand as more people have traveled across continents coming back with variety of expectation. The owner and team constantly challenge the team and by being creative to design their special new hidden menu which is Modern Cantonese cuisine. All the dishes are require to pre-order 24-48 hours in advance so that the chef team can prepare the freshest ingredient for this.

best chinese restaurant in penang

There are also constant demand on surprise me menu with customer giving them a budget. This have to be 7 days in advance booking and will be more like Omakase style. Diners would not know what will be serving out. It will be a suprise ingredient, style and dishes. So really depending on your budget that you wish the chef to surprise you with. this is also another segment that is growing its popularity besides the classic menu.

Part of their hidden or surprise me menu as below:

saladSeafood Ice Plant Salad (海鲜冰菜沙律)

This is indeed recommended. Its a entry dish that definitely stir up your appetite which is currently part of their current menu.  Nice bite of mixture of cripsy ice veggie, soft boil prawn. Sauce A great balance of sourish, hint of salty and more like Chinese Kerabu. It is like an uplift of classic veggie. Satisfying entree

One of their best seller dish.

crab foie gras

Stuffed assorted Seafood Crab Meat and Black Truffle on Crab Shell with Pan-seared Foir Gras (黑松露海鲜酿蟹盖拼香煎鹅肝)

For Chinese food, this is defiantely the elevated version. When I saw this, it is like woah, they moving to healthy eating too, as it is serve with bed of barley. Nicely presented with chunk of foie gras just top ontop of the crab.

Love this dish. Look simple yet taste is unique. Hint of truffle that is not ovepowering, with fresh crab meat and  I wish the foie gras to be torch burn to give me exxtra umami flavour, then will be perfecto.

A bowl of soup that is pack with flavour. Creamy yet every bite is generous with ingredients.  Serve with fresh scalllop and prawn. coconut soupDSCF8595Double-boiled Abalone,  Corn Lip Soup served in Coconut (椰皇鲍鱼螺唇鸡汤)

If creamy is not your preference then you can let them know you prefer clear soup. Love this too as the soup is packed with flavour. Simple yet satisfying.

best sesame chickenMaple Palace Style Golden Flaxseed Corn-fed Chicken (4 months Corn – fed Chicken) 名鸡*美宝阁脆皮金麻籽槽鸡

I used to have this dish in sesame seed. Yet they have make a slgiht twist on this by replacing with a unique healthy ingredient. Carefully selected with 4 months corn fed chicken as with this cooking style, it gives you the juicy flavour of chicken. Surprisingly soft even on the chicken breast area. Perfectly cooked as the skin is crispy on every bite.

best duck in penang

One of my favourite dish is this Braised Aromatic Duck with Abalone Sauce &  5 Heads South Africa Abalone (鲍鱼汁焖香酥鸭扣5头南非鲍鱼)

Duck just sitted there that looks like a perfectly crips skin which is actaually not. A unique vision that give you a mind twist. Its soft skin is meant to go well with its 8 hours cooked abalone broth. White raddish is superbly good as it is cook in their superior soup stocked.  Duck is cook to perfection, juicy, soft and can even tear the meat with chopstick easily.

patin fish

Toasted Wild Patin Ulu with Scallion (葱烧油浸野生黑金巴丁)

I have never had wild Patin before and this certaily caught me off guard. Fish meat is so fresh that near to melt in your mouth fish meat texture. (I am not sure is this suppose to be but was told yes). Chef did not want to over do this fish as it is hard to get yet handle with stim and some dressing of fried garlic slices with its special soy sauce.

Never had dishes that in this style. It is fried with white truffle sauce, not overpowering yet egg white can still be tasted.

DSCF8604

BBQ Iberico Pork Loin Rib (香料2烤西班牙黑毛猪小排骨)

This is actually one of their best seller. Can be ordered with normal ribs or Iberico. They carefully curate Iberico ribs that suitable with their cooking style. Ribs that gets you finger licking good. Well carramelize, and every mini bite you take is pretty spot on

best chicken rice in penang

Boiled Superior Chicken Rice 名鸡*黄油槽鸡王,鸡油饭 ( 3.5kg 7 Months corn fed chicken) ( 3.5 公斤 7个月玉米饲喂槽鸡王)

I must say this is one of the best chicken rice I have eaten over the years. Not to mention those old classic this but this is cook with generous flavours.

chicken rice

chicken rice in penang

Chicken is cook to the right style, soft inside out yet chicken skin is smooth and glistering. Meat is soft and juicy. Soy sauce with some hint of sesame oil is at the right amount.

The most addictive is their chicken stock rice with hint of ginger and oil rice. Once you start its hard for you to stop. just drech it with their side sauce with Chili, soy you can even just finish the rice it self.

I am sure this does not come cheap if you were to compare on those hawker/ kopitiam but indeed will be highly recommended by me.
chicken oil rice

oil rice

To end your meal, you can opt for Pork Lard Rice with Char Siew and Egg (黯然销魂饭) or even for your simple lunch to pair with some other dishes. A bowl of rice that is pack with flavours. top with pork lard and char siew sauce is just sweet caramelize that make it even more appetizing.

For classic dessert you can go with their signature Chilled Mango Sago with Pomelo,  Deep-fried Sesame Ball (杨枝美甘露,芝麻枣)

gui leng gou

This will be highly recommended dessert to end with. Chilled Herbal Jelly with Almond  Milk (杏汁龟苓膏) . I am not a fan of almond soup but this is so good. Creamy to a point that I like the taste of almond and the bitterness of Herbal jelly is just a perfect combination.

Siew Kee Pork Noodle at Manjalara Kepong is one of the famous pork noodle in Kepong this neighborhood. After I posted in my stories only got to  know it is a few of my friends regular lunch place. I find that this is not your regular Pork Noodle soup place which is a bit unique. I find its a kind of combination of local x east malaysia like Sabah or Sarawak style.

it is a simple comfort food and the store had been operating for more than 15 years already at the same location.

Soup base taste could not taste as prominent as the dry seperate version.famous pork noodle in klSince I observe alot people order the dry noodle, I decided to try one portion for dry and another portion soup base.  Dry pork noodle – Koey Teow Mee with all pig spare part.

Soup base is great as  I tasted there is a hint of “chinese wine” or siew weng chow in the soup base that give its uniqueness. Pork parts are all cook to perfettion, soft part where it is needed. Missing out is pork intestine. then that would be perfect.

Overall, I find it not too bad for a comfort food around the area. Do not mind to come back again as I want to try their Yee Mee Next. Is this the best? every one have their own preference taste. I find it quite worth to give it a try as not the usual ordinary style.
