Melaka is another state down south is famous for some street food. There is one particular dish which is very famous is Satay Celup in Melaka. It is one of the food that must have. There area few stalls, and Capitol Satay in Melaka is one of the most famous one. Be prepare to queue for at least 1 hour for normal days and if it is long weekend, it could be from 2-4 hours.

This place is only 5 minutes walk from the famous Jonker Street.

famous satay celup

This is my third visit to this stall over past 3 years. It is average about once a year, which is also the longest queue for me by far. I was luck to visit this place during my working trip on weekdays and it takes less than 30 mins to get a seating.  As the picture above, it is on weekend and I reach at 5.30pm. Waited for about 40 minutes for a table.

Capitol Satay (2)

Like any other best satay celup in Melaka, you are free to pick any ingredient from the fridge. It is all calculated base on the sticks that you have. Also each stick are painted different colour to indicate the pricing.

Capitol Satay (2.1)

The bread is amahzing. Do grab a plate of it. The rest is up to your liking. It is rather simple for a squence over here. Grab a tray, pick the item/skewers that you like and put it on your tray. You can come back multiple times till you are fully fed.

Capitol Satay (5)

For every famous satay celup in Melaka, they got their own secret recipe. For this outlet is their peanut and the last can on the right. That’s their secret mix of spicies powder.

Capitol Satay (8)

The will mix a large bowl of the spices and peanut and pour it into the mini pot right infront of you. Do note that on and off there will be some one coming to your table to stir on the pot. This is to prevent the peanut from sticking at the bottom.

satay Celup

Lets dig in. each stick is from RM 1 onwards. So look at the price board next to the fridge. Average per pax here is about RM 15- RM 20 per head.

Satay Capitol

Satay Celup is consider one of the Top 10 street food in Melaka that need to have if you are here. I second on that. However I find that the quality of this shop, the taste had changed. I felt that year 2018 and before, it taste much better. The fragrant of peanut, spices and others are more prominent.

Another that I used to go is Restaurant Ban Lee Siang Satay Celup.

In the month of Ramadan, we usually do have Bazaar and hotel dining over the festive month. For this MCO, all behavior had change and hotels are doing their best to survive. Bringing you the best of Ramadan 2020 set meals to your door step if you are lazy to cook for the day. Pullman Hotel KL is offering Sedap Ramadan that comes with 2 different sets. A set meal is pretty much fix base on the day.

This whole week I rarely cook by placing some orders for take away food to support back local business.

raya pullman (1)

I order a set meal for 2 @ RM 78 that comes with 7 different types of dishes and if + rice will be 8. It can be self collect or deliver it to your house with 1 day advance pre-order.  Delivery to my house cost RM 18 with my pre-arrange of Lalamove to Segambut.

You can place your order via watsapp – +60 12-621 2898 with full menu right at the bottom of the post.

raya pullman (3)

My order was Wednesday, the menu I gotten is :

WEDNESDAY
• Fresh Vegetables with Aromatic Chili Paste / Ulam-Ulam Sambal Belacan
• Fragrant White Rice / Nasi Putih
• Cooked Chicken with Chili and Tomato Paste / Ayam Masak Merah
• Stewed Beef with Grated Coconut Paste / Daging Rendang
• Spicy Stir Fried Tiger Prawn with Chili / Udang Harimau Goreng Berlado
• Sayur Kobis Goreng Kunyit / Cabbage with Turmeric
• Mixed Fruits / Buah-Buahan

raya pullman (2)

Surprisingly, the set that I good is pretty good. Udang Harimau Goreng Berlado turns out to be fresh and quite decent in size. Is about 6 pcs in total, so more like 3 pcs each. I am alright with that.

raya pullman (9)

raya pullman (5)

Ayam Masak Merah – turns out to be better than I expected. The spices and fragrant  with chili coated onto the chicken is pretty spot on. Soft and juicy.

raya pullman (11)

raya pullman (7)

raya pullman (8)

Among the dishes highlight – I personally felt that Daging Rendang is one of the best dish among the rest. Thick enough and pack with spices to my liking. Mild after spiciness just to bring the flavour up is just perfect.

raya pullman (6)

For the set that I purchase, it is indeed quite kampung flavour and I am impress over it. You can see the rest of the menu below and place your order through the number via watsapp – +60 12-621 2898

Roost Bangsar delivery their yummy fresh food to your home

MCO had made alot of business evolve. Much later on the phase 4 of MCO, starting to see a few of my favourite restaurant start to do delivery (read here past experience). Then saw Roost at Bangsar (sit right above used to be corner unit of Chawan, Bangsar) having a delivery menu for limited period of time. I got excited and look through their menu. Roost in Bangsar, KL is actually one of a very few restaurants that work with local farmers or using local fresh ingredients to prep on food.

farm to table

also they are actually quite generous, for first 10km is free delivery. So for my order I just top up just a little bit. As look at the  menu, we were quite greedy and for 3 pax we order a set for 4 @ RM 250.

comes with :

  1. Falafel with Salted Yogurt & Coriander
  2. Hummus & Kalamata Olives
  3. Mushroom Truffle Arancini (one of their signature item)
  4. Pumpkin Ravioli with Spinach & Almond
  5. Chicken Schnitzel with Cauliflower Rice & Tomato Jam
  6. Snapper with Borlotti Beans
  7. Braised Spanish Beef Cheeks with Mash Potato
  8. Dark Chocolate Gateau with nuts
  9. Baked Local Figs with Cream Cheese (fig was not fresh that day, I opted for dark chocolate). All their dishes are very generous with ingredients.

Menu is right at the end of the post and to place order via PM Roost KL on Instagram or Facebook (@roostkl)  /watsapp : 0122090226 also remember to tell them this special code TAUFULOUXROOSTKL to get 10% off.

local ingredients

We were too ambitious, as it was too much for us. A set for 4 is more like for 5 pax easily.

Roost Bangsar (3)

Pumpkin Ravioli with Spinach & Almond is one of the main highlight in the list. Creamy to my liking as pumkin taste is quite prominent. Ravioli not too thick, yet soft and just perfect in size. Easily there are 5-6 medium size ravioli in it. I dip it with their fresh bread. Taste pretty good too as I add in a huge slab of butter myself.

Roost Bangsar (4)

Roost Bangsar (5)

Falafel with Salted Yogurt & Coriander is done to perfection. The spices and the softness of the filling in it yet dipping with the clear sour salted yogurt and coriander gives the fresh flavour it needs. a well balance entry.

Roost Bangsar (6)

The simplest way to enjoy hummus is with their chef made bread. A big dip on the top and just put into your mouth.

Roost Bangsar (7)

Chicken Schnitzel with Cauliflower Rice & Tomato Jam Sort of healthy kind of dish but the suprise of this dish is when you squeeze the lemon onto pf the chicken schnitzel then you dip it with their tomato jam. A whole new of flavour. Love it.

Roost Bangsar (8)

This dish Braised Spanish Beef Cheeks with Mash Potato is like a dish that near melts in your mouth. The beef cheeks is so soft and juicy. Mash potato is creamy, light and airy. A little salty for my liking but did feed back to the restaurant, it could also perhaps, if not have been cooking quite a while at home where i am using a little of brown sugar and pinch of salt, and when comes a heavy flavour gives you a notch. Been a while to enjoy such a strong flavour.

I guess our palate are healthy now.

Roost Bangsar (9)

Roost Bangsar (11)

Mushroom Truffle Arancini – is one of their signature entree dish.

Roost Bangsar (12)

The first dish that we finish is Snapper with Borlotti Beans. Fish is fresh, and fried to just nice. A sea of beans that keeps you digging in especially with bread.

Roost Bangsar (13)

Got a complimentary chocolate cookie with seasalt. We felt that if this is microwave for 5 second then top a scoop of ice cream, then it is perfecto!

Roost Bangsar (14)

a meal that we are truely satisfied after a long MCO lock in.

Roost Bangsar

AS the finale is as good as in the outlet. I forgot to put the dessert in my fridge as when comes to desert only realise it is melting. Their dessert so far never disappoint. A perfect ending. Soft, creamy chocolate cake, with pistachio nuts and a bed of chocolate soil is a great combination.

Bidor Famous Wan Tan Mee @ Restaurant Mee Wah

Last year I was introduce by my friend, as on the way back to KL from Penang, he suggested that we should stop by at his favourite breakfast place. I say, lets do it. Then he turn into Bidor exit. I was like here? Then heading to this Famous Wan Tan Mee at Restaurant Mee Wah in Bidor, which is just about 5-7 minutes drive away from the toll exit.

best hidden wan tan mee in bidor

A place that is pack with locals.  Most of the outstation people do go to another shop – Pun Chun Wan Tan Mee, which I shall blog in another post.

restaurant mee wah (4)

A random pick from a store next to the wan tan mee is this Yong Tau foo. nothing to shout about as the soup is quite simple and clear. The ingredient are freshly fried.

famous wan tan mee in bidor

I was told by my friend This famous wan tan mee in this small Bidor Town, Perak had easily been 30 yeas. Currently is helm by second generation.

restaurant mee wah (5)

Indeed the taste of wan tan mee here is different from the one in Penang and KL. The taste is really like in between. I do find it quite interesting. Light fragrant soy, sesame and a bit of sweet end.

No doubt that the highlight will be the wan tan noodle it self. Springy and cook to perfection.

restaurant mee wah (9)

restaurant mee wah (8)

Wan tan is also quite generous. Is about 4 pcs But the price tag at RM 5, for a small town (if I remember correctly) is actually quite expensive. I thought it would be and RM 3.50 – RM 4.50. I am not too sure the living standard here but it could be the standard pricing for this town.

restaurant mee wah (10)

Order Sui Kow as additional. I think the sui kao is better.

restaurant mee wah (11)

I am not sure. Could this be one of the best wan tan mee in bidor? My friend shared that this is his favourite. If you guys do have your favourite place better than this. Do share. Will go hunt next.

Fuh, how many of you miss cafe hopping? During this CMCO many of us can order through GRAB Food. Since now more F&B operators are accepting dining in, here we go again in doing our part to support local businesses. Heard alot about this Australia inspired  cafe in Bangsar, Urban Daybreak. A new cafe operator from Penang that is penetrating KL Market. Some say is one of the best new cafe in Bangsar.

Some of you might recognize them as Jeremy Chick’s during MCO or CMCO. The chicken rice delivery in Bangsar.

best cafe in bangsar

To my surprise, there is actually a queue during this CMCO and I waited for 30 minutes for my table during lunch time at 2pm.

cafe in bangsar

their menu is pretty straight forward and pricing is the usual cafe standard.

coffee in bangsar

We ordered Cafe Latte @ RM 12 and Honey Latte @ RM 15. Coffee taste is to my liking as a well balance of coffee aroma and milk yet not too acidic. The Honey latte taste much better as there is after hint of sweetness.

best avocado mash

Asked about what is their top recommendation and apparently Avocado Smash @ RM 25 is their best seller. Something simple and direct for your brunch dosage, spread with homemade guacamole, feta cheese, wholegrain bread, roasted cherry tomato, cider and beetroot puree.

Urban Daybreak (8)

Porky Bolognese Sandwich @ RM 28 – spiced pork tomato stew, grilled onionz, mozzarella cheese, homemade hashbrown and sourdough. Italian spaghetti inspired turns to sandwich version. Quite interesting. Hashbrown is thick and crispy.

Urban Daybreak (7)

Stout Pulled Pork with Poached Eggs @ RM 28.50 – sourdough toast, poached eggs, bbq cider vinaigrette, feta cheese, crispy shallots . If your taste bud had awaken, this this would be a suitable dish. Stout pulled pork gives you a punch of flavor with a well balance of sourish taste. Runny egg yolk is just nice.

Urban Daybreak (10)

Urban Daybreak (13)

This is their hidden Steak sandwich @ RM 35 which is off from the menu. Do request from the waiter. Among all the sandwich, this is my liking among the all. A slight toast with butter fragrant on the top., with sourdough is soft in between and steak is done to perfection. Medium rare. – recommended

Urban Daybreak (11)

I am a sucker for this item. Will order whenever any brunch menu has it. Signature French Toast @ RM 24. Serve with brioche loaf, brulee banana, homemade salted peanut butter jam, mapple syrup and crispy bacon. What I find it interesting is the pairing of salted peanut butter, banana and broice bread together. A taste of salty, sweet, creamy. Kinda interesting. Best to order 1 portion and share among friends.

Urban Daybreak (12)

Urban Daybreak (14)

I find that this cafe is worth to pay a visit and would I return back? Yes, it had been a while since I last discover a decent cafe that worth to revisit. Could this be one of the cafe in KL? Maybe you guys share with me. I would say easily top 3 in Bangsar.

Marrybrown Salted Egg Meal is BACK!!!

Slowly I am turning into a fan of Marrybrown. A local brand that had been in our market since 1981. To surprise you, they have 500 restaurants across 16 countries . The group been growing steadily and getting hyped up over their egg-cited Salted egg yolk series. Carefully curated and R&D over the years had make a huge come back with a slight twist on this new Marybrown Salted Egg Meals.

Available in two options. Diners can hit on their Burger or MB Crispy Chicken coated in tantalizing real Salted Egg sauce!

Marrybrown (2)

Marrybrown (3)

Marrybrown (6)

We were greedy. I hit on for their 3 piece Crispy Chicken Salted Egg and my sister is after their Salted Egg Burger. , For the Salted Egg Ayam meal, it serve along mashed potatoes and vegetable salad. Both orders are serve with generous serving of Marrybrown’s special rich and creamy Salted Egg sauce infused with a dash of spice and aromatic curry leaves for that extra local flavor.

Quite a decent price from RM 15, both combo meals come with a refreshing cup of Heaven and Earth Ice Lemon Tea to quench one’s thirst.

Marrybrown (4)

Combo meals can be chosen with 2 piece chicken combo @ RM 15.90 or 3 piece chicken Salted Egg Ayam combo @ RM 18.80. As I heard quite good feedback about this flavours, and I got greedy by ordering 3 pieces of Crispy Chicken Salted Egg.

Marrybrown (5)

My sister love their Crispy Chicken Salted Egg Burger from RM 15.90. Serve with a piece of juicy chicken and it is indeed quite good! Do not mind to come back for this next round.

Marrybrown (7)

Salted Egg Ayam

Salted Egg Meals

During MCO I did try on Grab Delivery as my food is usually 30-45 minutes later. Upon arrival the chicken is not that crispy. This round I order in their outlet and the chicken turns out much better than what I have experience. Serve with 3 quite big piece chicken, drench with their salted egg sauce.

Salted Egg Burger

The sauce is thick, fragrant, and punch with flavours. Even I finish the third piece, it do not give me the “too much” kind of salted egg yolk feeling. Indeed egg-stra padu. I do not mind to have a mini sauce tub filled with egg yolk at the side, then it would be perfect.

salted egg yolk

I certainly do not mind to come back for their this crisply chicken series. Recommended by me

There are alot creative juice flow during MCO period. Chef now do have times to do some experimenting. The chef at Upperhouse Kitchen & Dessert Bar at Bangsar had come out with a few creative dishes to entice our healthy palate.

Upperhouse Kitchen & Dessert Bar (2)

Lets start off with fried chicken. This is Sriracha Fried Chicken @ RM 20 : Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Sriracha Aioli

Upperhouse Kitchen & Dessert Bar (4)

This platter is actually rather interesting. With the “tepi longkang leaves” being decorated on the top do give it an aesthetic look it needed.

Upperhouse Kitchen & Dessert Bar (3)

Upperhouse Kitchen & Dessert Bar (8)

Kimchi Cheese Croissant @ RM 26: Kimchi omelette, chicken sausage, mozzarella, mushroom ragout, feta, crispy shallots, coriander

Among all the dishes, I find this dish is the most interesting of all. Or the one that suits my palate. Chef is quite generous with ingredients that makes it look like huge croissant.

Taste is pretty spot on, yet unique that have its own taste feature. Freshness of parsley do give it a slight much crips yet sour bitter after taste as you bite on the buttery bread. Very interesting. It is a dish that worth to order to check it out. Remember to squeeze on the lime.

Upperhouse Kitchen & Dessert Bar (9)

Upperhouse Kitchen & Dessert Bar (10)

Not adventurous yet want to have something classic? Their Pink Tropical Smoothie @ RM 18 is very healthy. After I did the croissant, I finish nearly the whole bowl of this. So refreshing. Filled with Dragon Fruit, papaya, Greek yogurt, granola, coconut flakes, nata de coco, caramel

In Pudu, there is this famous Hainanese Kopitiam that used to operate inside the Pudu Pasar which is Ah Weng Koh Hainan Tea 阿榮哥海南茶. Since there was a new Pudu wet market that being build to replace the old one, most of all the classic famous market street food had move into this ICC Pudu building.  . [I still like the old classic pasar feel(click here)]. Of course in here is cleaner and cooler.

Currently it is helm by second generation if I am not mistaken, that is a shop that had been operating more than 40 years.

Ah Weng Koh Hainan Tea (1)

Well, many regard them as one of the best Hainanse Coffee shop that you can get in KL. It is well known not only till attracted local tourist yet many foreign tourist too.

If you come during long holiday, do prepare to fight for a table. It is a warzone!

Ah Weng Koh Hainan Tea (2)

  1. Signature Hainaese Tea/ Cham (means coffee mix tea)

It can be so busy till you have to pick up yourself.

Ah Weng Koh Hainan Tea (4)

Inside this kopitiam, there are a few other stalls too.

Ah Weng Koh Hainan Tea (5)

I find that the yong tau foo is pretty good too.

Ah Weng Koh Hainan Tea (6)

Ah Weng Koh Hainan Tea (6)

and of course not to miss this Famous Sisters crispy Popiah. Is a must have when you are here! Looks like of their very early stores?

Ah Weng Koh Hainan Tea (9)

Ah Weng Koh Hainan Tea (11)

Every single bite that gives you softness of the popiah skin, fragrant sweetness of the sengkuang, and the crispy bits in it. I usually finish whole plate myself.

Ah Weng Koh Hainan Tea (10)

My usual order. Cham coffee + Signature hainaese tea + kaya butter toast.

Ah Weng Koh Hainan Tea (12)

Ah Weng Koh Hainan Tea (13)

If you are here during long weekend, do prepare for this crazy crowd. If you are  tourist looking for breakfast in KL, this is one of a classic place to be. Tons of local food for your breakfast as you walk towards behind, you will easily find another 50 stalls.

Some people say its so so and some say its very good. Again depends on your taste bud. My foriegn friends prefer Ho Kaw which is at China Town, Petaling Street.

Happy eating.

It was before MCO I went to check out this cafe in ss15. The Toast House 多士號 at Subang SS15 was pretty hit before then. An white mosaic interior that gives  minimalist feel. Making them a  place which is pretty instagramable.

cafe in subang

Toast house x Kuala Lumpur is located the same stretch as the famous pork noodle or can say a few doors away.

Menu is rather direct . .

Since were here for a quick breakfast decided to try out the charcoal grill jumbo series with : Jumbo Bacon and Hashbrown sandwich with Cheese @ RM 15 – pork bacon, hasbrown, cheese, egg, cabbage, tomato slice

sandwich

The sandwich itself is pretty big, is more like a double toast x 3, so it is more like a sandwich stack for me.

the toast house (5)

Crispy inside out and their own sauce is not bad.

since the word Special Royal Coffee (Hot) at RM 5 do attract me to try. Well, I guess kopitiam version is better. Not to my liking. you guys can give it a try.

Then try out Taiwanese Pancake , Bacon Pancake @ RM 8. It is not too bad on the flat bread, slightly chewy to my liking and I guess worth to give it a shot.

A place to gather with your friends yet fancy coffee and cakes over a conversation? One of the place that is serving for pretty cakes is this The Champignons Cake shop in EkoCheras Mall. It is also part of Taste by Champignons.

best cake

Lead by this young chef Kingsley Kwoh whom has vast experience overseas that is now bring you his technique and flours to our table.

Just look at the cake offerings. It is just too pretty. Their cake frontage change 4 times a year and it is theme according to seasoned.

Taste By Champignons (11)

Getting a chance to try all the flavors and I am certainly too happy, as I am a cake lover.

pastry in kl

Some of you might find that the pricing is slightly high but then when you cut open, just look at the amount of time and work that he have done to the cake. Then it is justifiable. Each of the cake consist of at least 4 elements or 4 different flavours.

Taste By Champignons (4)

Taste By Champignons (8)

Their signature cake :  Elderflower @ RM 20 – Elderflower Whipping Ganache, Pink Guava Jelly, Guava compote, Sponge and Biscuit.

As for this cake, you can see that it stars from the base, then add on another 5 layer on top. With the top shell, its hand pipping, then follow by colour spray and finish with special sugar sprinkle. This cake takes 2 days to complete.

A nice balance of flavour where the confusion of elderflower gives us an impression like lychee, yet a hint sour bitter is the guava compote and a perfect cake to go with long black.

Taste By Champignons (5)

For this, just look at the chocolate tampering for  the Flamingo 2.0 @ RM 20 – Red Berries Whipped Ganache, Apple and Lime compote, Vanilla Sponge, Biscuit.

Taste By Champignons (6)

Taste By Champignons (7)

i find this very adventurous – Tropical Bar @ RM 19 – Exotic Mousse with Banana Confit, Lime Whipped Ganache and Banana Cake. a hint of banana cake flavour yet with the chocolate with hint of pandan is quite interesting – one of my personal fav.

Taste By Champignons (9)

i vote this Aloha as a generic or universal flavour. I believe this is easily accepted by many of you. @ RM 20 – Yogurt mousse, Pineapple Jam, Mandarin and Pear confit and Orange. Soft, airy, mid sour and fragrant end. I believe this will even goes well with white wine.

Coconut 2.0 @ RM 20 -Coconut Whipped Ganache, Pineapple and Mango Compote, Coconut Sponge, Coconut Gianduja And Chocolate Coating. The tempering and mix of this chocolate is quite technical. The coconut husk cant be too thick, where it cant be break. Oncey ou cut open, it is like a treasure in side.  anice balance of coconut that is not over powering yet can taste on the chocolate and pineapple.

WE end it with macaroons.

Taste By Champignons (17)

Oh no, we actually end with Home made sausage @ RM 19. This is pretty good. Love the slight grill on the skin and the flavour in it is petty good.

As for the cakes, my personal recommendation would be:

  1. Elderflower
  2. Aloha
  3. Tropical bar

We drank till late on Saturday night, then my best friend NEO say Bak Kut Teh for breakfast next day. We all asked him, are you serious? He said yes, lets go to one of his favourite 155 Bak Kut Teh at Pandamaran, Klang. One of the latest addition of bak kut teh added into the Bak Kut Teh street in Pandamanaran. They so called it “bak kut teh kai”

155 bak kut teh (1)

155 bak kut teh (2)

Operate by both husband and wife since 2015, they have quickly gain their popularity among the neighbourhood. In  Jalan Chan Ah Choo at Pandamaran, you will easily find about 15 Bak Kut Teh stalls along the street.

Price point as above

155 bak kut teh (3)

They operate early in the morning and till finish. Major of the best pork parts are usually sold out early. We are here at 9am after finish drinking at 2am.

They are well know for their Claypot bak kut teh style but Neo said, he prefer it to be serve in individual bowls. You get to taste the best of the soup and the quality of meat. So 4 of us and he ordered nearly all the parts of the pork.

From big bone, small bone, soft bone, pork ribs and  others.

It is indeed very satisfying, as I love the taste of the soup. Punch with flavour as they are thicker in taste, not only that which is also slightly more on the herbs taste. You can taste the tong guai abit more prominet that gives you the sourish bitter end.

Pork meat is soft, tender and juicy. Since after that day, I came back and tapau 2 rounds whenver I pass by.

Pandamaran Bak Kut Teh

Best of all, the soup is refillable.

Price point, refer to the picture with auntie above as I did not make payment that day.  But my tapau 2 rounds easily cost RM 38 for 2 pax. which I order cham cham.

155 bak kut teh (12)

After that, neo brought us to the famous under the tree Abang Botak Cendol.

China Town Seng Kee @ Petaling Street, KL

In Chinatown or known as Petaling Street in KL, is a place that used to be famous for a lot of nice eatery. However, most of them had turn into commercialize and taste had change over the years including China Town Seng Kee. Used to be one of a famous dinner place in Petaling Street or hotspot for after clubbing.

Seng Kee had been operating in this area for easily around 20-25 years.

China Town Seng Kee

after drinking at a hidden bar nearby, we decided to drop by this place to check em out again on the food as they are famous for a few dishes.

famous food in Chinatown

Seng Kee Chinatown (6)

The original founder of the place is left with this ah ma, where she sits in the shop most of the time. She build this place together with her husband. I forgot who was the chef, is either relative or son.

Claypot Lou Shu Fan

Claypot lou shu fan is one of their signature. flood with sea of mince pork and of course must topped with an egg. (this is upon request where many of their customers prefer not to have an egg) whyyyy????

Seng Kee Chinatown (5)

Seng Kee Chinatown (10)

Seng Kee Chinatown (8)

Another great dish that you should not miss is this Stir Fried Intestine which is one of their signature dish.. Fried with wok hei and it is punch with flavor on every bite. Chewy yet a bit of heat at the end as it is stir fried with chili padi.

Seng Kee Chinatown (9)

Seng Kee famous pork noodle

This is one of their famous dish. The Siew Yoke Mee (Roasted Pork Noodles). It is like a must order dish. The noodle is alright and Siew Yoke is not too bad. I still remember that the noodle sauce used to be darker and their siew yuk is more caramelize which is on the stickier side.

Seng Kee Hokkien Mee

The Kl version of Hokkien noodle is not too bad. Thick noodle which is not overcook and, cook to abit thick in sauce. As above, its quite like their must order item when you come to this stall.

Indeed the quality of cooking and food had dropped. But still decent enough to pay a visit whenever you feel like it. It is still here than better its close down. Support some local businesses to make them sustain is perfect.

If you are a traveler, I think it is worth to pay a visit here if you want some local stir fried street food in KL. Just my own opinion.

Summer Truffle Menu @ Champignons, Oasis Square

$

0

This place had always been one of my recommended place for fine dining. One of the reason is that they are affordable and not only that, it is helm by a local chef. Chef Gary had been running Champignons at Oasis Square, Ara Damansara for abaout 5 years. His menu change accordingly to season and also base on the ingredients that he can get. Recently, he had created Summer Truffle Menu as one of the main element of this highlight menu.

since the ingredient is in season, the menu is only available from only 25th July till 31st August. This menu I find it quite unique, as not the usual Chef Gary style which is more on French dining. I find his truffle menu is quite technical and adventurous. Unique combination of French and Japanese style.

Champignons (6)

Champignons (7)

Pricing is affordable as for :

  1. 3 course meal @ RM 138 per pax
  2. 4 course meal @ RM 168 per pax
  3. 5 course meal @ RM 208 per pax

Quite an interesting menu as there are more like fusion menu over French dining menu.

Champignons (8)

Starting our meal with white wine.

Champignons (10)

Starting off, you will be serve with chef home made bread. Soft, warm and fluffy. Just do not know why at that moment, I felt that a drench of olive oil will make the bread better.

Starter:

Champignons (12)

There are a few starter to choose from – Amuse Bouche – Beef Tartar and Black Truffle. bread is nicely toasted, topped beef tartar and the taste of black truffle just blends well with the tartar.

Champignons (11)

Champignons (16)

Among the starter this Truffle Cauliflower Soup – poached Japanese Oyster, Ikura and Sun flower seed. Just simple, delightful and filled with explosion of flavor. One of my personal favorite for the Starter. Light and foamy cauliflower soup covered with the fresh oyster, sunflower and Fish roe. gives you a nice bursting of bitter sour that goes well with the ingredient and freshness of poached oyster still prominent. to me, it is like multi layers of flavors..

Champignons (21)

Champignons (17)

This is pretty interesting where layers of flavors are being developed – Seared Foie Gras with Caramelized Fig – Black Truffle, fig jam, red wine jelly, brioche and red wine jus (add RM 15). Overall I find this is more on the sweeter side, with creamy foie gras, goes well with nicely torch burn fig and hint of truffle is not overpowering. A sip of white wine, just pushes the taste more fragrant.

Champignons (22)

Carbonara with Egg Yolk Confit – Black Truffle, streaky bacon, Parmesan cheese Foam. This is also another interesting starter. Unique of its kind where when you read the menu, you really expect Classic carbonara with egg but turns out to be a unique deconstructed version. Indeed it is a clever dish that play tricks with your mind. The jelly look alike texture that resembles fettuccine, and cream sauce. Right in the middle is the egg yolk and smoked bacon that just enhance on the taste.

Champignons (23)

this is their signature dish in their restaurant. I find it is like a French style Beef Wellington. It is actually Baked Duck Pie with Foie Gras. The smell of the oven baked pastries just trail in the air, with a perfect cook meat in the middle that is soft, pink and juicy. A bite with the meat and pastry is indeed quite pefect.

  • One of a must order dish – recommended!

Champignons (25)

Main course

Champignons (28)

Australian Beef Tenderloin – short rib tortellini, butter potato puree, broccoli and jus (add RM 35)

Champignons (29)

Champignons (30)

Truffle Chicken Breast – Butter Potato puree, garden peas, white wine sauce and herb foam. Some they like this creamy dish too, cuz a bed of potato puree just captures their heart.

risotto

Wild Mushroom Risotto with Shredded Duck -Parmesan Cheese, tempura Oyster mushroom and jus. Among the 3 mains, I like this more. It is simple, fragrant and punch with flavors. The risotto cook to perfection whereby it is still like half cook and the soup stock cook along with its slices of truffle and mushroom, the flavours just combines well.

truffle rissoto

Dessert:

truffle

Both dessert are unique in their own taste..  Pandan Creme Brulee – Gula Melaka Ice Cream Both dessert. the base of Pandan is just amazing. It is taste exactly like eating pandan cake but in creamy version. The torch burnt sugar gives it a hint of bitter sweet that it needed and the gula melaka ice cream that gives you the surprise as it is infuse with hint of truffle. Weird combination but I find it pretty good.

white truffle

Strawberry Tart with Truffle Gelato: – Strawberry Sauce and Vanilla pastry ice cream. If you love strong truffle flavour, then this is the dish to hit on. the Truffle gelato is just too good. I can have this whole scoop of savory ice cream myself.

Champignons (4)

If you think you are not full from the mains, then you can try out their interesting selection of pastries. I have tried it in their other outlet, and I am totally impress by the technical skills and layer of flavours. [click here]

Well, if I were to choose, my recommendation would be:

  1. Truffle Cauliflower Soup – option 2: foie Gras
  2. Wild Mushroom Risotto with Shredded Duck – option 2: steak
  3. Pandan Creme Brulee – option 2:Strawberry Tart with Truffle Gelato

These flavours combination gives me a pretty balance of food taste journey. Of course, I shall leave it to you on what you like for your own 3 course dinner.

Upon opening up the cling wrap, immediately it is burst with the fragrance of kuih.

Kuih dadar is good. The brown sugar coconut is not too sweet yet fragrant to my liking. Skin not too thick as how I like it.

Kuihco (6)

Kuih Talam is equally good too.

Kuihco (7)

Ohhh i must say, I am a big fan of onde onde and this is reallllllly goood! A bit that will burst into your mouth with its gula melaka. do not even think of cutting into half, it had to be one ball 1 mouth! If they can reduce slightly on the sweetness then perfecto!

Kuihco (8)

Kuih lapis is like the wobbly “boink boink” version.

Kuih Kochi is spot on. Love the stickiness of it yet the pandan fragrant of the kuih is quite prominent.

This is one of a cafe in PJ that famous for is their croissant. Their sweet series seems to be quite tempting.

Under this new norm, it took us 30 minutes to get a spot here over the weekend.

Flakes (6)

It is full house, and it is quite noisy where the ceiling is low and no carpet in between. So be prepare to talk louder than another table. weekdays will be peaceful here.

Flakes (7)

Try one of their sweet series – Pistachio. RM 9 if not mistaken

It seems that their signature is avocado and egg mash. Nothing to shout about, where you can just grab a croissant of the shelf and make it at home. RM 23 if not mistaken

Flakes (12)

For their pulled beef series and caramelize, onion is also the same. (RM 18 if not mistaken)

Both 3 of the croissant is not flaky as many written out there and also quite disappointing. It is bad to read reviews that create high expectation and come out with disappointment.

ss2 hub

Overall that I find the croissant series is so so only over the hype that had been created. Not flaky, fragrant and seems like bake twice. It could be not my choice of croissant and of course to many of you out there. this place is out for me.

Healthy eating? What comes into your mind? Modern will say poke bowl. Older generation will say vegetarian. Well, both is also healthy for me. Another will be this Purple Cane Tea Cuisine in the Gardens, Mid Valley, which is one of my favourite restaurants. a restaurant cooking is infused with Tea. Not only that, trying to cater to a bigger market, it is Pork Free restaurant that they do not sell pork and beef.

With the festive season of Mid Autumn is just around the corner, celebrating this The Big, Bright and Beautiful Moon 《圓月溜溜》 Delivering a Plate Filled with the Gift of Fullness and Serenity.

When you order a pot of tea, 2 pot will be served. This is how the way they filter their tea. First pour of tea water into the pot. Then let it sit for a while before pouring out. According to them, this is the best way to get the aroma out from the tea.

Exactly like how I was thought when I visited China.

Purple Cane (10)

Purple Cane (8)

One of my all time favourite is their Double Boil Soup. Yup! Double boil soup serve in a tea pot. It is punch with flavour, easy to drink as I like it. I do not mind to have 3 tea pot of double boil soup. Recommended!
